DACmini PX power management?

Postby vincent on Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:46 pm

Guys - Hi

I have recently upgraded to a DACmini PX. I am unclear/confused about the power management.

Does the unit automatically go into powersave/standby after no use for a specified period of time ?

Sometimes I can rotate the input knob so that there is no light on - is this power off or powersave/standby ?

Sometimes I cannot get the light to rotate off even if I disconnect the usb cable - is there a required sequence of shutdown required ?

Is there a recommended "warm up" time needed for best quality before listening ?

Is there a support manual/user guide ?

many thanks Vincent

Dear Vincent,

Thank you for writing and for being a customer. DACmini CX and PX behave the same way when it comes to power up and down. When you click the input selector knob enough times to the left or to the right, the lights disappear. This indicates a sleep state. it's not a full "power off" state, but a significantly reduced power consumption mode. Click the knob again to the left or to the right and the unit returns to life.

The issue you are referring to, when the unit can't wake up after sleep is most likely the result of a rare motherboard/OS combination not sending a proper wake up signal on the USB line. We've found some that don't exit out of the sleep/hybernation state correctly. Unfortunately this confuses the DACmini and has it waiting for the proper "wake up" signal forever. The simplest way to resolve this issue is to disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable. I believe that this issue is mentioned in the quick start guide that ships with the unit, but will double-check. Other than that, there is no manual to speak of since the product is quite simple to operate. Let me know if you have any other questions.
