Last Wednesday, DJ Jaem headlined Fresh Vibes, a new hip-hop night at
Louie's Pub in Chicago. Jaem, who works as Product Specialist at CEntrance,
was the main act on the bill at this Wicker Park venue.
DJ Jaem is a sought-after DJ in and around the Windy City and has been
honing his skills for over a decade. His big break came in 1999 when he
won a DJ battle at Florida A&M University, landing himself appearances
on BET's Rap City in New York. Since then, Jaem has maintained a busy
schedule of live gigs and studio work throughout Chicagoland.
"I have always loved hip-hop. Growing up where I did in Chicago,
I really didn't have a choice," said DJ Jaem after Wednesday's performance.
"Fans are great. Earlier in the night, though, an inebriated fan
tried to hand me a beer at one of the most critical points in my mix,
almost spilling the beverage on me, herself and the mixer between us."
Staying levelheaded and calm in a live environment takes a great deal
of patience and focus. The experience of performing helps DJ Jaem in his
CEntrance work, which requires his complete concentration as he develops
specifications for audio equipmentgear that must withstand the wear
and tear of road use.
