On Wednesday, CEntrance announced that a product it designed for Gibson
Labs Technology Group (a division of Gibson Guitar Corp.) was shown at
the winter NAMM show. The largest music industry convention in North America,
held in Anaheim, CA from 15th untill 18th of January, 2004 attracted thousands
of music industry professionals, musicians, manufacturers, and retailers.
MaGIC is Gibson's recently developed standard for carrying multichannel
audio over standard network cables, the same cables used to connect computers
over a LAN. MaGIC, which stands for Media-Accelerated Global Information
Carrier, currently offers the lowest transmission latency in the industry
(250 µs) and allows using inexpensive hardware to reliably transmit
audio and video information over long distances.
The product CEntrance developed for Gibson, codenamed "Mongoose"
is a "Digital Snake". It is designed to replace bulky cables
(snakes) currently used to connect microphones on the stage with the mixing
console located at the back of the performing venue. Traditional solutions
use analog technology, which means using a separate cable for every channel.
With a digital "snake", all channels can be sent via a single
cable, which improves reliability, lowers the cost, and simplifies system
setup.

Labs.
