On Tuesday, CEntrance announced a new addition to its video library. "The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus" on 14 DVDs has been added to the company's permanent collection. The set joins the ranks of such masterpieces as "This is Spinal Tap", "Brazil", "Best of Show", "Office Space", and other comedy classics, which have rightfully become "required viewing" for creatives, engineers, managers, marketers, sales people, and others who are keen on the notion of paradox.

A short description will not do justice to the amount of exquisite British humour contained within a 14 DVD boxed set, but we thought that a listing of cheeses from the famous Cheese Shop sketch would at least cause one to come over all peckish (if not esurient):

Red Leicester, Tilsit, Caerphilly, Bel Paese, Red Windsor, Stilton, Ementhal, Gruyere, Norweigan Jarlsburg, Lipta, Lancashire, White Stilton, Danish Brew, Double Goucester, Cheshire, Dorset Bluveny, Brie, Roquefort, Pol le Veq, Port Salut, Savoy Aire, Saint Paulin, Carrier de lest, Bres Bleu, Bruson, Camembert - the fromage de la Belle France, Gouda, Edam, Case Ness, Smoked Austrian, Japanese Sage Darby, Wensleydale, Greek Feta, Gorgonzola, Parmesan, Mozarella, Paper Cramer, Danish Bimbo, Czech sheep's milk, Venezuelan Beaver Cheese, Cheddar, 'Illchester and Limburger.

Michael Goodman, Managing Director of CEntrance added, "Is Monty Python a classic? Definitely. Does humor belong in the workplace? We certainly think so. Should our employees be viewing Monty Python DVDs on company time? Probably not."

The first episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus was broadcast on October 5, 1969. The show was buried late at night and was moved round the schedules to make way for other programmes. Occasionally it was dropped altogether, while certain regions of the UK never got to see it at all. Despite all this, the show developed a significant word-of-mouth following; enough for the BBC to commission a second series in 1970. (from BBCi)
